Digital resilience is becoming an increasingly important part of the sustainability agenda. As society’s reliance on digital infrastructure continues to grow, organisations need to strengthen their ability to protect data, respond to cyber threats and ensure business continuity – while maintaining the pace of innovation.

According to Johan Christenson, digital resilience must be built on a foundation of business continuity, rapid recovery and proactive protection against advanced cyber threats. At the same time, security and innovation need to evolve together – not as opposing forces, but as mutually reinforcing priorities.
“Security and innovation should not be seen as opposites, but as dependent on one another. New regulations such as NIS2, DORA and the AI Act may be perceived as barriers, but when security is built in from the outset, it creates a stable foundation where innovation can develop quickly and with confidence.”
Digital resilience is also closely linked to sustainability. Digital infrastructure has a significant climate impact, and choices around architecture, data centre location and energy supply all influence energy consumption and emissions. A regional presence and greater control over infrastructure also create better conditions for transparency, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
